SUMMARY

The person under the supervision of the Chief Commercial Officer directs all activities involved in marketing, sales, and new account development and is the primary customer contact for small to medium accounts or companies new to rail transportation for their respective assigned railroads. Direct sales and marketing functions are the key activities, along with the ability to perform sales administration, analytical activities, and projects. He or she should have a detailed knowledge of the customer base and transportation needs to develop action plans and coordinate company resources in fulfilling customer requirements, achieving customer satisfaction, and meeting assigned financial targets.

DUTIES AND REPSONBILITIES:

  • Manage existing and potential customers to expand their rail business and develop new rail-served industries along the Florida Gulf & Atlantic (FGA) line of operation.
  • Generate steady sales leads and prepare proposals.
  • Contact current and potential customers by means of visiting the customer facility and by phone within an assigned territory to determine transportation requirements.
  • Research potential revenue opportunities. Discuss potential opportunities with other departments within FGA.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the customer’s business. Successfully integrate knowledge into developing price, service and equipment packages with appropriate supervisor input and approval.
  • Lead and coordinate the resources of all railroad departments to maximize account penetration and satisfaction.
  • Develop new strategies, programs, or service offerings to expand FGA’s participation in relevant markets.
  • Develop and present approved rates to customers designed to meet customer needs, while maintaining corporate revenue and profitability levels.
  • Develop and assess customer needs through professional listening and selling skills and coordinate team efforts to translate those needs into action plans.
  • Represent the Company before government officials, state legislators, and leaders in economic, industrial, and commercial development as appropriate to promote business development opportunities on FGA’s line.
  • Formulate a revenue budget for specific customers to reflect an accurate assessment of future business levels and work to achieve said budget.
  • Provide monthly customer specific revenue forecast and supply information and reports used in executive management decisions to ensure success of the department and FGA.
  • Participate in interdepartmental projects and teams as needed for overall improvement of the Company.
  • Represent FGA by participating in professional organizations, conferences, seminars, business meetings, etc.
  • Cross trains with other Sales & Marketing personnel.
  • Develop and expand a working relationship with other railroads, as appropriate

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Experience with the development of pricing, tariffs, and commercial regulations within the railroad industry
  • Excellent quantitative skills
  • Proven record of resourcefulness and ability to perform well with limited supervision
  • At least five years of sales, marketing, or other relevant experience required
  • Three years of railroad experience preferred

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; master’s degree in business or marketing preferred

LOCATION:

  • This position is based in Jacksonville, FL or Tallahassee, FL

TRAVEL:

  • This position requires approximately 30% travel

  • Monitors the speed, brakes and other gauges to make sure the ride is smooth and is operating correctly.
  • Monitors track conditions for anomalies (such as broken rails, defective switches and weather-related problems), inspects railcars in compliance with Federal Railroad Administration regulations of 49 CFR.
  • Responsible for safely and efficiently operating locomotives and trains (of primarily freight railcars).
  • Works with conductor of train to obtain information related to train movement and track authority, acts on instructions received by means of various communication.
  • Provides information on train stops, reports and explains accidents and unscheduled stops and delays.
